From the exhibition, "Identificazione di un Paesaggio"
commissioned by the Comune of Venice, Italy in 1998 and 1999
first exhibited at VEGA Parco Scientifico Tecnologico, Marghera in September
2000.
Extract from the exhibition catalogue:
One striking feature of the Port of Marghera and it's industrial
zone, across the lagoon from Venice
is the sheer size and scale of industrial growth and activity. It is the contrast
in the infrastructure
of canals, waterways and industrial buildings between Venice and Marghera that
is of interest.
When Venice became too small to compete with the trading ports of the Industrial
Revolution, the Port
of Margera became a natural extension to meet the demands of mass production
and to fascilitate a
wide variety of specialised bulk and cargo ships. Marghera is the 20th C. version
of Venice and
this is what focussed my attention.
